Why We Won't Be Supporting Instagram Login

After evaluating Meta's developer requirements, we've decided not to support Instagram login and will instead focus our efforts on platforms that provide a better experience for creators.

During development, we explored adding Instagram as one of Colla's supported login providers. On the surface, it seemed like a natural addition—many creators have an Instagram presence, and supporting another platform would make it easier for more people to join our community.

After researching Meta's APIs and implementation requirements, we decided not to move forward with Instagram integration.

The biggest challenge wasn't the technical implementation itself—it was the restrictions surrounding the platform. Accessing meaningful creator data requires the Instagram Graph API, which comes with a lengthy App Review process, additional permissions, and ongoing compliance requirements. Many useful features are limited to professional accounts connected to Facebook Pages, while personal accounts expose very little information through the API.

We also found that Instagram's authentication flow requires significantly more maintenance than our existing providers. Access tokens expire frequently, additional infrastructure is needed to refresh them, and many permissions require manual approval before they can be used in production.

As a small team, we want to focus our time on building features that provide the greatest value to creators. Supporting a platform with heavy administrative requirements and inconsistent access to creator data would take resources away from improving the core Colla experience.

Because of this, we've removed Instagram from our roadmap for the foreseeable future. This decision allows us to focus on platforms that provide more reliable integrations and a better experience for our users.

We're always open to revisiting past decisions as platforms evolve, but for now our priority is continuing to improve Colla rather than navigating unnecessary platform restrictions.
